I’m super pumped about this new eight week pilot program we’re launching through Serve Burlington at Bike Recycle VT. Starting next week, Mike Bazemore (Serve Burlington’s soon to be director) and UVM student Alex Holt will start mentoring four men from local transitional shelters in bike repair . The repaired bicycles will go to those who desperately need an inexpensive mode of transportation via Bike Recycle VT. The trainees will spend the final three weeks of the program repairing a bike for themselves, leaving with their own transportation along with the dignity of knowing they’ve served others.
Pray that God will enable Alex and Mike to really connect with these men — made in the image of God just like us — providing opportunities to listen to their stories and speak words of hope and healing into their lives.
Also pray that this program will expand in the coming months to involve more trainers and more guests from area shelters.
That’s a fantastic idea.Enable them to enable others. Too bad I’m so far away. I’m sure this area is loaded with unused bikes. (and you know from experience that i’m a super “bike fixeruper”
