This is Discipling
One of our Burlington City Church college students, Kevin Valentin, shared this video with me today. I’d say Kevin gets what God has called us to do as His church in this city. Please pray for Kevin V and others as they pray about launching a Home Fellowship in the downtown/university area of Burlington in the coming months.
Burlington City Church- Vision & Values (part 3)
These are the notes from the third and final week of a series on the foundational vision and values that drive Burlington City Church. In part 1 we asked What is the church? and What is the church’s mission? In part 2 we asked, How does this practically look in 2012 Burlington, VT? In our Home Fellowship meeting on April 1 we asked, What will this require of us? Continue reading

Burlington City Church- Vision & Values (part 1)
We’re excited about what God is doing in our Home Fellowship as Burlington City Church has moved from an idea to a concrete reality. As we’re preparing for Easter on April 8, launching our second Home Fellowship in Winooski on April 15, and looking forward to launching a couple of more in the coming months, we’re spending three weeks discussing the foundational vision and values that drive us as a church. Here are the notes from our Home Fellowship meeting on March 18. Continue reading
Transforming Power
I was prayer walking around Burlington this past Thursday and decided to stop at Battery Park where I could gaze across Lake Champlain towards the Adirondack Mountains in the distance. It was a perfect place to meditate on scripture and pray- early in the day and just cold enough that I had the park to myself. Continue reading

I’m so excited to announce that David Dabney will be arriving in Burlington from New Jersey this Saturday evening. David is my close friend, a spiritual “little” brother, and an extremely gifted artist and musician.
Bike Mechanic Workshop
I’m super pumped about this new eight week pilot program we’re launching through Serve Burlington at Bike Recycle VT. Starting next week, Mike Bazemore (Serve Burlington’s soon to be director) and UVM student Alex Holt will start mentoring four men from local transitional shelters in bike repair . Continue reading
Random Tuesday Morning Strategic Thoughts
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve spent some time digging into what the Apostle John records Jesus saying in John 6 and 7. This morning two major points stuck out to me about how Jesus approached ministry:
- He was terrible at giving a sales-pitch.
- He was 100% against self-promotion. Continue reading
Snowshoeing & Church Planting
One of my favorite things about living in Burlington is that you can drive to numerous amazing trailheads in around an hour. In the middle of January that means one thing for me: snowshoeing! Yesterday, after our Home Fellowship meeting several of us headed to the edge of the Green Mountains to hit the trail and take in some views. As we trudged forward two things happened (the same two things that always seem to happen when hiking in the mountains): the trail became steeper and our legs grew more tired. Continue reading
